Political Science Department Work Study Student Assistant

The Department of Political Science seeks one Work Study eligible student assistant who is a rising senior Political Science major for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The time commitment is 10 hours a week during both long terms.

The position is to provide assistance to the Academic Administrative Assistant and the faculty of the Department of Political Science and includes: copying class assignment from the faculty, scanning research materials and emailing the faculty, delivering and posting flyers and posters, organizing supplies, maintaining supplies in the copy machine. Trips to the library to pick up books and return books are regularly requested. We will ask you to pick up the mail several times a week. You will assist in the maintenance of display materials on all bulletin boards. (3rd floor of Fenwick Hall)

Greet visitors to the office as needed and take messages. Answer questions about faculty schedules, phone numbers and office locations. Answer the phone if the AA is not at her desk. 

If asked, assist faculty with research and writing projects.

You will come into contact with all faculty, Department Chair - Professor Denis Kennedy, deans and over 400 political science majors as well as visitors from off campus and other departments. Each day you will often be amazed how busy the Department is. In person interview are now taking place and will end on May 21st.. Contact Mrs. Loyd Boyd to set up a date and time. The office is located in room 325 of Fenwick Hall.

The Regional Environmental Council is bringing people together to create a just food system and to build healthy, sustainable and equitable communities in Worcester, MA and beyond. Interns will work 25-30 hours per week, July and August, 2024.

Millard Art Center - Summer Work Study

The Millard Art Center is looking for students who will be on campus this summer to assist in various cleaning and organizational tasks in and around the studios. Duties will include cleaning and organizing art supplies, Helping to clean and maintain tools and equipment, and preparing demo materials for Fall classes. Hours available are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10am-3pm. Shifts will be a minimum of 2 hours up to a maximum of 10 hours per week. The job begins Tuesday, May 28th and runs until the last week of June. The buildings are closed in July, there may be additional work opportunities in August. Applicants must be eligible and approved for work study. Experience in the Millard Art Center is not required.

Media Center Assistant

Media Center Assistant is a WORK STUDY position. You will not make the first round of employment if you are not verified as Work Study qualified at the time of hire. Because there is a three-year learning tree associated with this position, the class of 2027 is given preference. Two references may be requested.

Students are part of the Audio Visual, Educational Technology, and Digital Media Services team.  .Applicants are expected to have excellent customer service skills and will be trained to use Audacity, iMovie, and other applications supporting digital media creation. They will help lab visitors, troubleshoot fundamental lab issues, restock supplies and printers, and check media-related items in and out of a database with attention to detail. 

Duties include the following: Equipment circulation and desk operations;  answering telephone calls as well as patron general and direct questions. Responsible for the essential support of all equipment. Light cleaning duty, printer upkeep, general setup and regular checks of the lab are expected. Courier duties: up to 30 lbs. Other responsibilities include setting up audiovisual equipment in the classroom and assisting audio-visual services with night and weekend work. Workers will support our Media Suites and other duties as assigned.

Hours are determined at bi-annual meetings with the entire staff to ensure appropriate staffing and hours. These are traditionally held the day before semester classes begin.

Students will be expected to discuss  and understand the following;

Customer service (former Kimball employees are welcome)

Be self-starters in problem-solving (there are night and weekend hours)

Technical know-how with computers and software (but will train) and enjoy challenges

Willing to discuss how they handled a "workplace conflict."

Work well under brief but intense stress and long periods of quiet.

Video Production: Broadcast Production Assistant

Position Overview

As a valuable member of the Holy Cross Athletics team, you will assist with game day network production duties for the College of the Holy Cross. This position will work closely with members of the Video and Network Production staff to perform essential game day functions, including setting up and breaking down broadcasts, operating cameras, graphics and replay systems, communicating with other members on the broadcast team and more for live shows produced on ESPN+ and other networks. This position is an excellent opportunity to obtain hands-on experience and is ideal for students who are interested in sports and looking to build their resumes. Job Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the broadcasting of  athletic events to ESPN+, FloHockey, and CBS All-Access

  • Setup and breakdown broadcast equipment before and after each production

  • Direct, produce, operate cameras, replay, graphics, and switchers for broadcasts and videoboard shows

  • Assist with postgame highlights when applicable 

  • Work home games on nights and weekends

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with or interest in video production

  • Familiarity with or interest in any or all of the following sports:

    • Football, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, softball

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn camera shot selections

  • Willingness to learn broadcast equipment

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain professional conduct, even in stressful situations

  • Ability to work nights and weekends

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once

  • Must work a minimum of 150 hours during the fall or spring semester (if for credit)
