The Hanify-Howland Memorial Lecture Committee is pleased to announce that the 54th annual Hanify-Howland Memorial Lecture will be given by former NASA astronaut, Dr. Scott Parazynski, a highly decorated physician and tech CEO, on Tuesday, October 29th at 8 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom at the College of the Holy Cross. The Hanify-Howland Lecture Series recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in the realm of public service in honor of Edward Hanify, a member of the graduating class of 1904, and Weston Howland. Parazynski's talk, titled "The Opportunity and the Obligation to Innovate: To Infinity and Beyond", is free and open to the public and will be followed by a signing of his book titled "The Sky Below."
Veteran of five space shuttle missions and seven spacewalks, Dr. Scott Parazynski was inducted into the US Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2016, joining an elite group of American space heroes. He is also the first person to have both flown in space and summited Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth.
Parazynski is a widely sought-after keynote speaker on innovation, risk management, mentorship and leadership under extreme adversity. His 2017 memoir, “The Sky Below,” gives his first-hand account of how he has overcome extreme odds both in space and on earth.
A prolific inventor/product developer, Parazynski is the founder and current CEO of Fluidity Technologies, focused on the development of revolutionary input devices powered by machine learning to intuitively move through physical and virtual space.
