Earlier this month you received an invitation to attend a special weekend on campus to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the BSU. We hope you will join friends and classmates on November 9-11 as we honor the legacy and future of this extraordinary organization and the work it has inspired.
Those of us on the planning committee thought long and hard about how we might honor this moment by directly supporting current students on campus. Given our own experiences, we believe we can "pay it forward" by providing funds that would allow student members of BSU to better network with alumni and take advantage of high-impact opportunities such as internships or summer research.
We know these opportunities are particularly important for undergraduates studying at liberal arts colleges like Holy Cross. They allow students to immerse themselves in an industry of interest and “test drive” a potential career field. They also offer an opportunity to network with professionals, develop new skills, and hone existing strengths. All of these things result in career readiness and increased marketability to prospective employers.
Many students cannot afford to take an unpaid internship or to live away from home in the summer. These funds would support BSU members with stipends, housing and other costs associated with internships or other high impact experiences– affording equal access to these important opportunities.
Join us in supporting the BSU Student Opportunity Fund in honor of the BSU 50th anniversary. Our initial goal is $50,000 for the 50th reunion, but we are very confident we will go well past this goal. We are pleased to announce that leadership donors have already made commitments of $20,000.
Let's all join together to help current students. The Holy Cross alumni network is strong but the BSU Holy Cross alumni network is extraordinary.
Sincerely,
