From June 2018 through June 2019, the College celebrated its dodransbicentennial, marking 175 years as a Jesuit, Catholic institution of higher education in Worcester, Massachusetts. As part of this celebration, an anniversary logo was designed to visually unite the events held throughout the year.
About the Logo
In developing the 175th Anniversary Logo, the designers were tasked by Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., president of the College, to incorporate a visual presentation of the cross. The goal was to create a set of logos that could also be used beyond the anniversary year, replacing the standard logos in use at the time with a version that conveyed our history as a Jesuit, Catholic, liberal arts college to any observer.
To achieve this, the sunburst was shifted vertically and four of the arms were extended to create a prominent cross within the logo.
The 175th Anniversary Logo
In the anniversary logo, in addition to the addition of the cross, "175" was added within the sunburst. This logo was used across campus throughout the 2018-2019 academic year, as the College observed the 175th anniversary.
The New College Logo
After the celebration year was over, the "175" was removed, but the shield retained the new cross and positioning of the sun. This left a slightly modified, new College logo with a cross as part of the design.
The Shield
The shield shape in the College logos was drawn from the Seal of the College, and includes a sunburst element inspired by the seal of the Society of Jesus.
The Seal
The College Seal will continue to be used on all formal documents.
