Biography
Omar Quiñonez received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Emory University in 2021. His areas of specialization are nineteenth-century philosophy, German Idealism (Hegel and Schelling), Marx and Marxism, and contemporary continental philosophy. He is also interested in critical theory and questions in aesthetics, decolonial philosophy, and the philosophy of nature. His work touches on the themes of natural defect, aging, plasticity, entropy, and decadence. Currently, he is writing a monograph on Hegel’s philosophy of nature. The book looks at how natural defects such as physical deformations are evidence for Hegel that nature is open-ended and not entirely rational, a realization which is most crucial in reorienting his philosophy towards a practical account of self-determination.
