About the Speaker: Ingrid Rowland is University of Notre Dame professor of architecture and history, based in Rome. She is a frequent contributor to the New York Review of Books and author of several books, including "From Pompeii: the Afterlife of a Roman Town," "The Collector of Lives: Giorgio Vasari and the Invention of Art," co-written with Noah Charney, and "The Divine Spark of Syracuse." She was awarded the Society for Italian Historical Studies' Howard R. Marraro Prize for her 2008 book on "Giordano Bruno, Philosopher/Heretic."
About the Talk: Professor Rowland traces the development of the Strada Pia in Rome and focuses on two churches by rival architects of the 17th century built within 25 years and 200 meters on the famed thoroughfare: the San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane by Francesco Borromini and Sant' Andrea al Quirinale by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
