About Ronald K. Brown
Ronald K. Brown, Founder and Artistic Director of EVIDENCE, is an award-winning and internationally renowned dance artist and choreographer. He has set work on Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Ailey II, Ballet Hispanico, Cleo Parker Robinson Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Company, Jennifer Muler/The Works, Jeune Ballet d'Afrique Noire, Ko-Thi Dance Company, Muntu Dance Theater of Chicago, and Philadanco. Brown is the recipient of the Audience Development Committee, Inc. (AUDELCO) Award for his choreography in Regina Taylor's award-winning play, Crowns, and the Fred & Adele Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography in the Tony Award-winning The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess. Additional awards include a Doris Duke Artist Award, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts Choreographer Fellowship, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, The Ailey School Apex Award, and the United States Artists Fellowship. Brown has taught master classes in contemporary dance, as well as text and movement workshops in performance and teaching residencies throughout the United States. His most recent work, New Conversations, was set to Afro-Cuban jazz music by Grammy Award-winning musician Arturo O'Farrill ad premiered at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in 2018. Ronald K. About Evidence, A Dance Company
The mission of Evidence, A Dance Company is to promote understanding of the human experience of the African Diaspora through dance and storytelling, and to provide sensory connections to history and tradition through music, movement, and spoken word, leading deeper into issues of spirituality, community responsibility and liberation.
Founded by Ronald K. Brown in 1985 and based in Brooklyn, New York, Evidence focuses on the seamless integration of traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word. Through work, Evidence provides a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs. Brown uses movement as a way to reinforce the importance of community in African American culture and to acquaint audiences with the beauty of traditional African forms and rhythms. He is an advocate for the growth of the African American dance community and is instrumental in encouraging young dancers to choreograph and to develop careers in dance. More »

Ronald K. Brown and his company Evidence have deeply moved audiences for over 30 years, and are praised for a "sophisticated amalgam of Afrocentric movement and modern dance" that often makes "spirituality...something vibrant and transformative" (Los Angeles Times).
Brown and dancers from Evidence kick off a Spring 2019 residency at Holy Cross with a lecture demonstration, sharing Brown's exquisitely crafted, spiritual blend of African, modern, Caribbean and social dance styles.
Community Dance Workshops

This is a great opportunity to learn about his blend of modern dance technique with West African movements including traditional and social dance forms from US, Senegal, Cuba and Ivory Coast. No dance experience is needed; just an open heart!
The workshops will build towards a final showcase and celebration with student and community participants in late April. Repeat participation is highly encouraged.
FREE and open to the public. All ages, no dance experience is needed.
Please wear sneakers and comfortable clothing.
