Dear Members of the Campus Community,
April marks the beginning of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), and Holy Cross is joining colleges and universities around the nation in increasing awareness of campus-based sexual assault, promoting prevention education, and restating strongly that sexual violence has no place in our community. Throughout the month, the College is providing opportunities for faculty, staff and students to actively engage in events, activities and dialogue that aim to foster an environment that’s safe, healthy and respectful.
On Wednesday, April 6, as a part of Unity Week, we are hosting a discussion with writer and artist Chanel Miller in Hogan Ballroom at 7 p.m. First known publicly as Emily Doe, Miller is the survivor of the Stanford University sexual assault case that exposed the harsh reality of what many sexual assault victims face. Her best-selling memoir, Know My Name, was named a winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the Ridenhour Book Prize, and the California Book Award.
I will be traveling back from alumni events in Florida, but plan to attend the Chanel Miller event remotely. I invite you to attend this event and others throughout the month if you are able.
Holy Cross is a community that values the safety and dignity of everyone who lives, learns and works here. We are committed to working together to prevent sexual misconduct on campus, support survivors, and respond quickly to reports of misconduct and violence through clear investigative and adjuducative processes. Sincerely,
Vincent D. Rougeau
