REC Mission and Background

The Regional Environmental Council (REC) is a grassroots food justice organization that has been working in Worcester since 1971 promoting community leadership and creating access to food for Worcester’s most food insecure communities. Every spring, the REC grows and distributes over 8,000 seedlings to over 70 community and school gardens within REC’s UGROW network and our YouthGROW Farm, which employs over 40 Worcester youth every summer. We rely on student volunteers, work-study students, and other community partners to help us care for the seedlings throughout the spring.
