With multiple productions mounted each year, students are provided with a plethora of opportunities to get involved. These include:
Directing
After learning the rudiments of directing in a classroom and studio setting, qualified students are encouraged to direct main stage productions (musicals and comedies) with the Alternate College Theatre.
Acting
Students are able to take a variety of acting courses, ranging from the introductory basic level to the advanced experimentation of Kamikaze Acting. Students can act in numerous productions both on both our main and studio stages.
Dancing
Students can study ballet, jazz and contemporary dance at either the introductory or advanced level. Each year a major dance concert is mounted on the main stage. In addition, students can join a series of dance groups on campus, ranging from ballroom dancing to hip hop.
Stage Management
The numerous production opportunities in our two spaces provide ample opportunities for students wishing to gain practical stage managing experience.
Design
The department offers a range of courses in set, light and costume design. Students interested in technical theatre and design can pursue a Design Emphasis within the major.
Film Studies
In conjunction with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, the department sponsors students seeking a concentration in Film Studies. Students learn the history of film and acquire the analytical tools to critique a wide range of cinematic genres.
