Requirements

Students take six courses to satisfy Urban Studies minor requirements.

  • 3 courses in Arts and Humanities and 3 courses in Natural and Social Sciences that support a coherent thematic focus (see Thematic Focus section below)
  • At least 3 different disciplines/departments represented
  • No more than 3 courses at 100-level (MONT courses require special permission); at least 3 courses 200-level or above
  • 1 upper-level course must be an advanced seminar based on the student’s interest in Urban Studies, with a final paper / project relating directly to the Urban Studies theme

Thematic Focus

Students are required to develop a thematic focus in their study of the urban environment. Minors may choose one of the themes listed below, or they may propose their own theme, subject to approval. The thematic focus should provide the student with a significant degree of breadth and depth in the theoretical study of their theme.
