Disability Accommodations

In accordance with the American with Disabilities Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Holy Cross provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals during the application process and/or during their time of employment. This allows all of our employees to enjoy equitable benefits and privileges while working at Holy Cross and allows everyone to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of their jobs.

What is considered a reasonable accommodation?

Reasonable accommodations are any modifications or adjustments to a job or the work environment that will enable a qualified applicant or employee with a disability to participate in the application process or to perform essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations also include adjustments to assure that a qualified individual with a disability has rights and privileges in employment equal to those of employees without disabilities. Accommodations that create an undue hardship on the College, compromise the health and safety of members of the College community or fundamentally alter the nature of the College’s employment or academic mission of the College are not required.

How do I request a reasonable accommodation?

Complete the Employee Disability Accommodation(s) Request Form and submit it to Merrilee Grenier, HR Employee Relations and Compliance, to initiate the interactive process.

What does the accommodation request process look like?

The College will engage in an interactive process with the individual requesting the accommodation to determine whether the individual has a disability, the impact the mental or physical impairment has on the individual’s ability to perform the essential functions of their position in order to determine whether a reasonable accommodation is appropriate under the circumstances.

Religious Accommodations

What is considered a reasonable accommodation?

Consistent with its mission, commitment to diversity and inclusion and full nondiscrimination policy, and while reserving its right where permitted by law to act in accordance with its Catholic, Jesuit mission, the College will, upon request, seek to provide reasonable accommodation of an employee’s or job applicant’s sincerely held religious belief if the accommodation would resolve a conflict between the individual’s religious beliefs or practices and a requirement relating to work or the job application process, unless doing so would create an undue hardship for the College.

How do I request a religious accommodation?

If you believe you need an accommodation because of your religious beliefs or practices (or lack thereof), you should request an accommodation from the Human Resources Department by completing the Employee Religious Accommodation Request Form and submitting it to Merrilee Grenier, Employee Relations and Compliance Specialist in Human Resources by email to mgrenier@holycross.edu or in person at Smith Hall 101.
