About the Speaker: Rebeca Pabon, a union organizer for domestic workers in FNV Bondgenoten in the Netherlands, has worked closely with union members to coordinate the campaign for domestic workers' rights nationally. She also is a steering committee member of the International Domestic Workers Network and campaigned for the ratification of International Labour Organization's domestic workers' convention 189. Originally from Puerto Rico, Pabon earned her bachelor's degree in labor relations at the University of Puerto Rico and her master's in labor policies and globalization from the University of Kassel in Germany.
About the Talk: Pabon talks about international efforts of domestic workers to organize, overcoming the fields' inherent challenges of informal work arrangements and isolation. Newly secured rights entitle domestic workers to the same rights as other workers in other labor sectors and regulates terms and conditions of employment, length of work day, time off, in-kind payment, etc.
