Students host meal auction to raise money for Mexico Immersion Trip

Want to have dinner with Rev. Michael McFarland, S.J., in the president’s apartment? How about a night out on the town with the deans? Then don’t miss the annual Mexico Meal Auction Fundraiser. Faculty and staff from the Holy Cross community will prepare meals in their homes, or take students out to dinner. Take advantage of the opportunity to get to know your professors (and staff) outside of the classroom, and support a good cause.

The Meal Auction, sponsored by the Mexico Immersion Program, is Thursday, March 13 from 8 - 10 p.m. in Hogan Crossroads. Fools on the Hill will be performing at the event, hosted by Paul Melley and Marty Kelly in the Chaplains’ Office.

Other hot items up on the auction block; a cook out with the Klinghard’s, Daniel Klinghard of the political science department and his wife will host good old fashioned BBQ for six students; Professor Shapiro of the French department will cook a four-course French meal for six; and the office of student life will serve up breakfast for nine in your residence hall.

“We have 35 professors and faculty participating,” says Sarah Fontaine ’08, organizer of the auction. “It's a great way for the whole community to get involved and to get the word out about Mexico.”

The annual Mexico Meal Auction is the primary fundraiser for the Mexico Immersion Program, a two-week, faith-based, reverse-mission program that provides students with an opportunity to walk with the poor of Mexico and experience the reality of life for many people in Latin America. The program, now in its 22nd year, is run through the Chaplains’ Office.

Cash and checks are accepted, no credit cards. All proceeds from the auction enable students to participate in the Mexico immersion trip.
